In 2000 Swarthmore Music Store assumed operation of the former Lynne Music Store. The store was expanded and renamed Springfield Music Store.

Al Bien, the owner, has been in the retail music business since 1977. He began his retail business in 1977 as Wayne Music Store in Wayne, Pennsylvania. A few years later he became the manager of Studio 42 in West Chester, Pennsylvania and eventually became the owner of that location as well. In the early 80’s he purchased Skip’s Studios in Media, Pennsylvania and renamed it Media Music Store.

In the mid eighties he took over Swarthmore Music Store in Swarthmore. He eventually consolidated the Media location into the Swarthmore location. An opportunity arose to take over the Springfield location and the Swarthmore Music Store was closed in August of 2010. There are currently three store fronts at Springfield Music Store located next to each other.

The main store houses the Band Instruments, String Instruments, Sheet Music department and Lesson area. The Guitar Place houses a nice selection of guitars, basses, amplification and related accessories and is the nerve center for the eBay and Amazon online sales departments. The other store front houses the Drum and Pa department as well as Springfield Recording Studio, a digital studio and rehearsal studio.
